Calvary

Windswept top enough to chill
God’s heart exposed upon a cross
Freezes the mind, so cold and cruel.
In Him the heart of God revealed
Here Christ has reconciled the world.
That word
Love spelt out in the scarlet of Jesus dying.
The garbage of the world
Taken out to a garbage dump.

This spectre numbs like cold
As God withdraws His hand from sin.
Christ the rag, soaked body drenched in pain,
The sickness, hurts and evil of this world
Wrung out in His Father’s hand
Like a rancid dishcloth.
The stench alone enough to bring tears
Becomes sickly sweet.
God’s hand was heavy on Him.
Heavy is glory.
His glory a King’s ransom
In the gold of Jesus’ rising.
